As part of its millennium celebrations, Egypt is working on a project to revive the path of the Holy Family through the country. "This is a very important project, it is huge," says the Minister of Tourism Mamdouh Al- Beltagui, explaining the project is to show Egypt is to show Egypt has always been a land of tolerance and refuge.
The project was initiated by the Ministry of Tourism in 1997 and a ministerial committee was established to supervise the different celebrations. An executive committee under the chairmanship of Minister of Culture Farouk Hosni was then formed to select the most important historical sites to begin the necessary restoration work.
Beltagui encourages cooperation with writers, intellectuals and businessmen who can contribute to this cultural project. He says the next step will be to improve accessibility and then starting to approach potential investors to build facilities.
