Muhammad al-Bāz reports on a M.A thesis by Ahmad Lāshīn, assistant professor at the

Faculty of Arts at ‘Ayn Shams University. The thesis was published in a book entitled ‘Karbalā’

bayn al-Ustūrah wa al-Tārīkh’ [Karbala between the Legend and History; a study in the Iranian Public

consciousness].
In his thesis Lāshīn presents many traditional stories that circulate in

Shī‘ah culture about anticipations concerning al-Husayn’s killing in Karbala. One of these

was a story about Jesus Christ who was allegedly once walking with his disciples in Karabla and met a lion who

did not allow them to pass without naming the killers of al-Husayn; mainly Yazīd. [Reviewer: al-Husayn is the

son of ‘Alī Ibn Abī Tālib, Prophet Muhammad’s cousin. It is said that al-

Husayn enjoyed special preferential treatment from the prophet.]
