More than 50 thousand Copts participated in the global day of prayer in the Monastery of Sama‘ān al-Kharāz in the district of al-Muqattam, Cairo governorate.
The so-called "night of prayer and returning to God" continued for nearly 21 hours and was led by Archpriest Sam'ān, father of the Monastery.
The night included spiritual hymns, prayers and finally a Holy Mass. It started at 6 p.m. on Friday, November 11, 2011; prayers were to bring blessings to Egypt and its people, asking for forgiveness, for love, praying for the coming elections, the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces (SCAF), Egyptian government, the sick, and Syria.
Worshippers of different denominations held the Egyptian flag and posters that have the prominent Bible verse "Blessed be Egypt my people" [Isaiah 19 - 25].
