The founders of the Center for Arab-West Understanding are extremely glad with the February 18 ruling of the Egyptian Council of State that our center should be recognized as an NGO under Egyptian law. This ruling concludes a period of three years of struggle to obtain this status. CAWU is extremely grateful for the support received from the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs who recommended our recognition as NGO in February 2005, former Dutch Prime Minister Andreas van Agt for his visit in May 2006 and the Ministers of Foreign Affairs, Endowments, and the Secretary General of the Arab League and many Egyptian dignitaries who in May 2006 expressed their support for our NGO.

objectives. First,

enhancing interreligious dialogue and building bridges with Muslims. Second, mending the

fences between the Roman

Catholic Church and Orthodox churches.
