Demonstration in front of the Egyptian consulate in New York; 16 Copts murdered per minute C.N.N.-TV; Egypt is a place of persecution. See how they treat monkeys and bears in the zoo. Mahmoud Wahba: Jews are using Copts to cover a disaster among them.

Rose al- Yūsuf, July 28, is also very upset about American interference in Egypt’s religious communities, and shows that claims of persecution are highly exaggerated and that Jewish organizations have been behind such claims, not because they are interested in human rights, but because they want American funds to Egypt to be cut.

The newspaper also reports that Peter Vallone, head the local council of New York city, has presented a report that indicates that the city is to boycott all companies and banks that deal with the 15 countries in which Christians are persecuted, Egypt, Indonesia, and Saudi Arabia.

Milad Hanna
Summary
Article summary:

Dr. Milad Hanna, one of Egypt’s most prominent Christians, author of many books on Muslim-Christian relations in Egypt and columnist in Al-Ahram, is very dismayed about the proposed American religious freedom law. In an article in Al-Ahram of July 22 he writes that there are sectarian clashes which are nothing else but ’masked ignorance’. The Americans are not interested in the Copts, he writes. They only use them to achieve their own political aims. Egyptians shouldn’t let themselves to be used. This was tried before when the British occupied Egypt, but the Egyptians remained united. Sectarianism erupted under Sadat but President Mubarak managed to bring communal peace back to the country. "The Copts are very Egyptian" he writes, "their problems are an internal affair. No one has anything to do with it. We should not let anyone use the Copts to achieve his own aims and interests."
