Dr. Nash’at Ja‘far explains how Islām treated Ahl al-Kitāb as believers, not apostates.

Dr. Youssef Al-Qaradawi says that the form of Islam needed for globalization is forged and thus rejected. He believes that it is better to use the word “non-Muslims” instead of “kufar” in the Islamic religious discourse.

According to Sheikh Youssef Al-Qaradawi, there are three kinds of kufr [unbelief]. There is atheism [elhad], which is a total denial of the existence of the Almighty God. There is polytheism [shirk], which means believing in more than one god. The third kind is the denial of Islam and the message brought by the Prophet Mohammed. Westerners are kuffar because they do not believe in Islam.
