Arab West Report Egyptian press summaries and media research for dialogue

Hello and welcome !!

We at AWR (Arab West Report) have been working hard to present our content in a new up-to-date system.

This article wants to

• inform you about the changes (also what it means to your subscription)
• help you get accustomed to the new system

The new AWR features

• much better search of articles
• possible user contribution based on article (discussions can be started on every article)
• streamlined production process and for you as customer it means that we will be
• more up-to-date (backlog less than one day usually)

You will find a short FAQ at the end of the article.

 This is what you see now (of course with a different logo):

The areas are:

• the login window is in the upper left "pane" (lower-left now)
• the navigation-menu is in the left "pane"
• the centre pane gives you an overview of the present week, additionally you have an overview of Arab West Report Analysis in the lower part of the centre
• the right pane shows you a gallery and (further up) a list of the recent weeks

The following depends on if you are

• a visitor (anonymous user) you have access to articles only
• a registered user  with login (registered users have full access to our extensive search tools)

Let's assume you are a registered user with a login and a password.

So first login with your username and password

Now you can browse through the articles of the present week by clicking on the article title. Depending on your privileges you will see the summary and the fulltext of the article as shown here.

Note that you can navigate forward  (>)  and backward (<)  to the previous and following article by clicking on the links above or below the article.

Articles fo the recent 10 weeks can be accessed in the same way by using the links under Recent weeks in the right pane top area.

You can search for any term through the search in the upper right window. It will suggest certain terms it has found which are similar.

If you have advanced search requirements you might also want to try the advanced search or the "Search database" menu.

A warning on transliteration

Many names in our database use transliterated characters like Ā, Ī, or Ū

These can not normally be input by the keyboard and can only be searched successfully by using their html-equivalents which are

• &#256 for Ā, &#257 for ā
• &#298 for Ī, &#299 for ī
• &#362 for Ū, &#363 for  ū

Short FAQ (Frequently asked Questions)

• Q: Can I still use my login from the old system ?
  • A: Yes ! All logins have been copied to the new system.
• Q: I forgot my password. How can I get a new password ?
  • A: Click on the link under the login window titled "request new password"
• Q: I haven't got a login yet. How do I get one ?
  • A: Click on the link under the login window titled  "Create account" . Fill in the necessary information and submit the form. You will be mailed a confirmation with a link to the email-adress you entered. Click on that link to activate your subscription. Important: Without this confirmation step you will not be able to use your login !!
• Q: I don't need my subscription any more. Where can I terminate that ?
  • A: Use the form under Contact us and select Subscription to inform us about your wish. The help-desk will delete your account.
• Q: can I pay my subscription by PayPal ?
  • A: Yes, use the subscription by PayPal link under subscriptions
