The Political Parties Committee decided to suspend Al-Shaab as well as the publications issued by the Labor Party until the leaders of the party have settled their dispute over the presidency. The committee decided to put the complaint filed by the leaders of the party under investigation.



The committee’s decision raised wide scale reactions among other opposition parties. The head of the Wafd Party, Fouad Serag Al-Din rejected in principle the suspension of newspapers. He said, "we are against suspending the activities of parties and we reject what has happened inside the Labor Party."



Al-Tagammu, Nasserist, Al-Wefaq Al-Watani Parties have all announced their rejection of the principle of closing down newspapers. Leaders of political parties called for the necessity of keeping the available margin of democracy and providing the proper atmosphere to accomplish the multi party system. They asserted the necessity of respecting the law and protecting the interests of the country.



For his part, Adel Hosni, Secretary General of the Labor party, said that they will go to court to appeal the Political Parties Committee’s decision.



The secretary-general of the Press Syndicate, Yehia Qalash, said that this decision is a collective punishment for the 60 journalists of Al-Shaab who were not all involved in the issue of the novel.
