The expelled monk made a terrible mistake whether he was, at this time, defrocked or not, this is not the issue. His being a monk doesn’t imply anything against Christianity because religion is religion, and humans are humans. The journalist also made a terrible mistake. It is quite clear that a monk made a terrible mistake whether he was, at this time, defrocked or not this is not the issue. He betrayed God, offended his people, disgraced humanity, committed adultery, blackmailed people using oppression, manipulated people and stole as well. After all he is just a human being and an Egyptian citizen so he should be punished according to the law. His being a monk doesn’t imply anything against Christianity, simply because religion is religion, and humans are humans, people make mistakes. We can find that religious people do such horrible things everywhere and in every religion. However, it is a shock to many people.

It is quite clear that the State Security Investigations have handled this issue wisely. During the investigations they showed the videotape and the investigation documents to a church leader, since it was a very sensitive case, and the church needed to decide, at this time, whether to consider it to be a church-based concern. However, the church decided later that this should be handled as an ordinary case since this man was already defrocked and considered to be a layman.

It goes without saying that a journalist has also made a terrible mistake. He fabricated a lot of information besides the true story, which really offended all Christians in Egypt. Besides which he published forbidden indecent pictures. Moreover he overstated and used quite indecent language, which offended all Egyptians.

It is also known that Girgis the defrocked monk’s brother copied this disgusting tape and sold many copies and he is also being questioned.

There is no doubt that the government has been quite resolute in handling the case. It is the law that decides how justice is done. Abiding by the law should protect both Christians and Muslims.

Since the situation was quite tense, some Christians became fervent and demonstrated, however they were rash and hasty. They overreacted because of either zeal or impulsiveness.

Still very few Christians think they belong to the United States rather than Egypt, others are under the illusion that they are always persecuted. There are those who try really hard to make Christians believe such nonsensical stories. It is undoubtedly true that only Egyptians are able to protect Egyptians whether they are Muslims or Christians.

The truth is always hard to tell, however, it is better for us to be cruel to be kind.
