The Cassation
court set the session of October 17 for examining the appeal lodged to stop
implementation of the seven
year imprisonment sentence Dr. Saad Eddin Ibrahim, the head of the Ibn Khaldoun Center,
was given in the
case against the center. In addition the session of December 19 was set for examining the appeal
lodged
against the ruling itself.
One of Ibrahim’s lawyers said that there was hope that the
court may accept the appeal lodged to stop the implementation of the ruling.
For her part,
lawyer
Randa Ibrahim, the daughter of Saad Eddin Ibrahim said, there is nothing to make us stop hoping.
According to the
legal reality there is no reason for continuing the imprisonment of my father, especially
after the cassation court
ruled military order No. 4/1992, under which my father and 27 of the Ibn Khaldoun
Center’s employees were tried
and convicted, unconstitutional.
Ibrahim’s defense team
denied that there was any American
pressure behind setting the session of October 17 for examining the
appeal.
