Article summary:

Anyone with Middle Eastern or Arab features will certainly have problems mixing with the American people now. They are quite hostile towards anything that is related to the Islamic world. All Arab or Middle Eastern people suffer if they are students, employees or children. It is worse if the person is a veiled girl she will certainly suffer more.

Article full text:

In an interview a few days ago the interviewer asked a veiled Arab girl about the future, she answered while crying that she is totally convinced of the veil, but her schoolmates beat her. The same interviewer asked an Egyptian child what he would like to be, he answered that he would like to be a pilot, but when an official was asked if that was possible he said that he did not think so.

If you have Middle Eastern or Arab features, you will certainly have problems mixing with the American people now. They are quite hostile towards anything that is related to the Islamic world. All Arab or Middle Eastern people suffer if they are students, employees or children. It is worse if the person is a veiled girl she will certainly suffer more.

All people are worried and tense. They are afraid of the consequences and what will happen. They might face the same destiny as Adel Karas who was murdered in his grocery store for nothing except the fact that he was Egyptian. Arabs and Muslims are very worried that the police will change these crimes that are based on hate and chauvinism against Arabs and Muslims into ordinary crimes.

If a girl is insulted and spat at by her classmates and also humiliated by her teachers, it would be quite useless to call the police, as they would do nothing. The situation is quite tense, stressful and traumatic.

Many incidents of hate towards Muslims have been recorded including threats, phone calls, obscene language written on Mosques. Some supermarkets and Islamic shops have been destroyed. So people have had to change the names of their shops so that they will not get hurt.

All Muslims try to show their feelings of belonging by raising the American flag over their homes.

Strangely enough some Muslims are trying to change their names into American names to avoid being attacked or harassed.

Gamil Youssef, a journalist, has to move as little as he can, since people doubt everything about the Arabs. He thinks that things have changed radically since that awful horrific day. They, as Muslims and Arabs, are being re-evaluated nowadays. He said that he has always been invited to the Academy Awards, but they sent him a letter this time demanding that he answer many questions if he wanted to attend the following celebration. He said that he was trying to do something with Hollywood movie stars who have come from the Arab world, but they are reluctant to step forward, especially now.

Egyptians nowadays use their cars to move from one state to another for fear that a pilot will refuse to fly a plane with Arabs on board.

The consequences are so bad; business owners and companies avoid employing Arabs or Muslims. Many security people and guards have been laid off. Many Muslims have avoided going to mosques fearing that they would be harassed.

Though the picture looks so bad, there are still good points. There are some Americans who have demonstrated against war and others who have stood up for their Arab neighbors.
