Al Azhar delivered a strong strike to the Egyptian Ministry of Culture and to the Book Organization affiliated to it. Weeks after the release of [the Azhar] report, a committee was formed by the Book Organization in order to find out whether or not the book "Wasaya fi Eshq Al-Nisaa" [Commandments on Loving Women] is against Islamic principles. The committee gave tribute to the book and its author.
The Islamic Research Institute, affiliated with Al Azhar, emphasized the necessity of confiscating the book and banning its circulation. The new bomb of Al Azhar exploded during a meeting held yesterday, headed by the Grand Imam of Al Azhar Dr. Muhammad Sayyed Tantawi. During the meeting, a report on Al-Shahawi’s book prepared by a committee of Azharite scholars was examined.
The Islamic Research Institute called upon concerned authorities to "collect copies of the book from the market as soon as possible, before they reach the hands of the public." The Institute stressed that the book offends faith and goes against morals.
The first edition of the book was released last January by the Egyptian-Lebanese Book House and was translated into French and Dutch. Furthermore, a low-price edition of the book was released through the Family Library project, carried out by the Book Organization.
