Article full text:

The Alexandria Misdemeanors’ Court, headed by Judge Ahmad Manīsī, has finally closed the case of the Muharram Bik incidents, brought by some lawyers against Pope Shenouda III of Alexandria and Patriarch of the Coptic Orthodox Church of Egypt and the priests of the Mar Girgis Church, Father Antonius Fahmī and Father Antonius Fu’ād, in Muharram Bik.

The case dates back to last October, when the St. George’s [Mar Girgis] Coptic Church presented a play considered offensive to Islam. [Editor: The play was not actually presented in October 2005, but several years earlier. In October 2005, news of the ’discovery’ of the play was published in some Egyptian media. See AWR 2005, 51, art. 2] More than 8000 Muslims demonstrated outside the church, threw stones at police officers and set fire to a number of cars.

Some Muslim lawyers had filed a lawsuit against the church, but the case was settled when the two parties reconciled during a conference held at St. Mark’s Cathedral [Reviewer: No further details provided].
