A subcommittee of the Danish Journalism Committee nominated the editor-in
-
chief of the cultural section of Jyllands Posten, Flemming Rose, for the most renowned journalism award in
Denmark. It was Flemming’s idea to publish the cartoons that abused the image of Prophet Muhammad in
September,
2005. The committee justified his nomination saying that he had stuck to his opinion during and
after the crisis,
and was therefore eligible to win the award.
The author went on to mention that
Jyllands Posten was
the first newspaper to arouse the crisis between the West and the Islamic world
by publishing the cartoons abusing
Prophet Muhammad.
It has been resolved to announce the winner’s
name on the third of next January. Awarding
the Armor trophy [Reviewer: no link found] will be in
accordance with the following protocol, two days after
choosing the winner, they will receive 20,000 Danish
Crowns [around 3000 U.S. dollars], in addition to the
trophy.
