Article full text:

A 26-year old Coptic Orthodox woman has obtained a court ruling for a divorce after proving that her husband was married to another woman. Al-Maydān had previously published this woman’s story before she obtained the court ruling, but the question now remaining is: what is to become of the wife?
In answering this question, Father Indrāwus ‘Azīz said that once the husband decided to marry another woman while he already having a wife, the first marriage contract became null and void. According to Christianity, the second marriage is considered ‘adultery’ which allows the first wife to get divorced.
He also said that the victimized wife should resort to the patriarchy to obtain the permission to remarry. Archpriest Indrāwus ‘Azīz offered to perform a re-marriage ceremony to the wife based on the divorce verdict she received which complies with the Orthodox beliefs.
Father Indrāwus ‘Azīz further stressed that it is important to find suitable grooms in order to protect other wives. He offered to search for other husbands of other similar divorced wives in order to save these women from following or acting upon forbidden immoral desires.
