A new novel entitled, ‘Shalimar the Clown’ by author Sir Salman Rushdie, was issued recently in English by Random House and in French by Plon Publication [See: http://www.complete-review.com/reviews/rushdies/shalimar.htm]
The issues of religions, cultural dialogue, and ideological rifts rank first among Rushdie’s concern and one of his favorite subjects because he was raised in the city of Kashmir which suffers under the conflict between Hindu and Muslims.
Sir Rushdie, the controversial author who offended Muslims in his book ’The Satanic Verses,’ was recently awarded a knighthood by the British government.
This new novel begins with the murder of a Jewish diplomat by his Muslim driver. However events in the novel show that the killing had nothing to do with religion or politics.
Through his novel, Rushdie addresses the world of modern terrorism after the September 11 attacks which, as he said, have changed his vision of the world.
