Hānī Labīb presents some short stories by Malāk Mu‘awwad Surūr. The stories are from Surūr’s new collection’Shaykh George’, which explores the situation in Egyptian society and changes in Muslim-Christian relations in an elegant and indirect style. The author comments on the story of ’wajh barī’ [a baby face], saying that it is possible to change a person’s path in life, and then turn him down. Therefore, responsibility moves from the individual to society and then to the state.
As for the story of ’Shaykh George’, the author says that it is intended to be an ideal model of the relationship between Muslims and Christians.
