The author believes that the most important feature that marks civil society in Egypt is the presence of some associations with long experience in the field of development. Such associations have significantly helped the state in offering some development services such as eliminating illiteracy, empowering women, supporting mothers and children’s health care and integrating the disabled into society. At the same time there are a lot of development projects that mainly seek to spread awareness in society.
The author sheds light on the training portfolio issued by the department of cultural development at the Coptic Evangelical Organization for Social Services [ www.ceoss.org.eg/], known as CEOSS, under the title ’A Better Life for Youth’. This project aims at spreading sexual awareness among the youth, both those at the stage of puberty and those on the threshold of marriage.
The training targets parents, teachers and social authorities who deal with youth. This is interesting, according to the author, because society lacks organized ways to educate people about sexual awareness which is based on correct and accurate information on one hand and observes the positive Egyptian values on the other hand.
