Article full text:

Some Muslims wonder why they are suffering from weakness and poverty while Allāh has promised them prosperity and luxury: "when might belongeth to Allah and to His messenger and to the believers." [The Meaning of the Holy Qur’an by Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall, 63:8]. "The reply to such wonder is very simple," Dr. al-Fanjarī comments, "it is that we are far from applying religion and ruling by it. In return, we do not expect Allāh to grant us prosperity while He describes whoever abandons His rules and teachings as kāfir and apostate.
Al-Fanjarī adds that he believes no one could argue the importance of faith in the rise of nations. Countries prosper in two ways; one is that their people reach a certain level of education and culture like the German and the British peoples. “We need hundreds of years to reach this stage,” al-Fanjarī comments. The other way is for people to abide by their religious faiths and teachings. Faith encourages people to work and produce in order to please Allāh.
Al-Fanjarī then discusses the idea of applying Islamic hadds saying that it is one of the benefits gained from ruling by Islam. He adds that these hadds should be applied within a perfect Islamic society where both the ruler and the people are responsible for a having an economically and socially just state.
“Applying Islamic rules is the only way to defeat Israel and regain Palestine,” al-Fanjari says towards the end of his article, “no one can deny that all Arab countries were defeated by Israel which gained more power after each war… Israel is a religious state that knows its way towards success.”
Al-Fanjarī concludes by saying that rule by Islam would change the life of the nation and create a new spirit, that it would destroy all aspects of corruption, ignorance and poverty.
