Another session was held in the trial of the suspects of the Naj‘ Hammādī attacks. Another session was scheduled for April 18, 2010. Muhammad Ahmad Muhammad, known as Hamām al-Kammūnī told al-Dustūr of March 22, 2010 that he was innocent and that he was going to pay for what some other people have done.
The session has witnessed augments between the two defense teams. [For more information on the attacks of Naj‘ Hammādī see AWR 2010, week 2, article 35]
Al-Akhbār of March 21, 2010 reported that the Supreme State Security Court had postponed the trial of the three suspects accused of committing the January 6th attacks in Naj‘ Hammādī to examine the evidence collected.
Hindāwī Muhammad Husayn, one of the three suspects who had admitted during the investigations that al-Kammūnī committed the crime, changed his statement, claiming that he was forced to make his original statement under duress.
The suspects’ defense rejected the referral of the case to the State Security Court. The court refused the demand of Nabīl al-Wahsh, the suspects’ lawyer, to hear Bishop Kyrillos’ testimony for what the court considered a contradiction in his demand asking for Bishop Kyrillos’ testimony while he is presenting an article published in a local publication in Qena some years ago accusing Bishop Kyrillos of illegal financial deals.
Al-Misrī al-Yawm of March 21, 2010 reported that the defense of the suspects called for the referral of the case to the Supreme Constitutional Court instead of the State Security Court.
