A group of people calling themselves “secularists” along with a Christian minority are now propagating the idea that Egypt is a sectarian country. Yet, at the same time these are the very same people who practice intellectual terrorism and pressure the media for the sake of spreading their ideologies thereby promoting sectarianism and threatening citizenship.
Among the demands of such people is the repealing of the Second Amendment to the Constitution which mentions Islam as Egypt’s official religion and Islamic
sharī‘ah as the main source of legislation. They claim that would facilitate the separation of religion and state. Tāj al-Dīn then comments that this demand violates the faith and beliefs of the 70 million Muslims who find no happiness except in applying
sharī‘ah and following the Prophet Muhammad’s
sunnah.
