“We will place Dr. al-Barādi‘ī in front of a difficult test, for here he is inside a society that does not acknowledge names, but rather programs and the ability to implement them,” said some of the major Egyptian activists planning to meet with Dr. Muhammad al-Barādi‘ī in the US on April 27, 2010.
Egyptian activist Shafīq Butrus told al-Yawm al-Sābi‘ that he and others have been in contact with Dr. al-Barādi‘ī to exchange opinions and visions regarding the latter’s political stance. He also added that Egyptian communities in New York, Washington, Chicago, and California have representatives scheduled to meet with Dr. al-Barādi‘ī and listen to things from his point of view.
Butrus further stated that the meeting would include not the demands of Copts, but rather those of the Egyptian people yearning for freedom and human rights—it would not focus on the demands of any particular group. This point was also asserted by ‘Umar ‘Afīfī, spokesperson for the Egyptian coalition in the US pointing out that al-Barādi‘ī is planning to meet with 15 Egyptian-opposition organizations.
