Q: What, is in your opinion, is the signification of leading the attack on Christmas Eve, and where were all the security officers that night?
A: the The signification significance and the goal are clear; to disturb Christians on Christmas Eve and petrify terrorize them. Our children are already afraid of the increasing violence and they parents tell me that they are afraid to send their children to school. and I answer that God is merciful and that the children should sit their examinations. I am happy because the situation has calmed down in the past perioof lated. As for the security officers and their presence, this a question that I have no answer for. It is for the security apparatus to answer this question. All that I hope for now is goingetting back to normal; children at schools, employees at work and farmers at farms. For Christians’ lives over the past few days were have been very disturbed and uncertain.
Q: It is noticed that there is something vaguemysterious; the incidents went over more than two days on the row and have not ended, while in previous cases, like in Farshūt, the clashes were put to an end?
A: The proverb says “forgotten in your happy times and invited for sorrowful ones;”; members of the People’s Assembly in Naj‘ Hammādī should make a move. In Farshūt things were easier because it is a town of families; we sat with the elderliness and asked them to control the situation and calm the people. When the elders order, no one violates. Naj‘ Hammādī, however, is ruled by members of the People’s Assembly. In other words, an MP like ‘Abd al-Rahīm al-Ghūl is from the costal district by the river, and ; as such, when he orders people to calm down, they do. Other members like Fathī Fu’ād and Hishām al-Sha‘īnī are supposed to control the areas they live in. However, these people only invite us and visit us ly during the elections to celebrate winning our votes, but they disappear in our sorrowful times […]. I have been living here for 33 years, and I know how the town is managesd. The last time I was home in Manfalūt was 10 years ago.
Q: Members of the People’s Assembly have authority over the people of the town, but is the presence and control of the security forces necessary and in the heart of their tasks.
A: I cannot say explain how patient is Mahmūd Jawhar is. He responds to wrath bywith cordiality and wisdom, to avoid escalation. What I ask for is a steady presence of the security forces so that everybody notices them and knows they are there. The mobility of security groups should be reconsidered. And, as I said, the parliament members and their control is also necessary. Now the situation needs leading wise people leadersto be ended.
Q: What is the secret being behind the continuityation of the conflict after the accent incident and the ongoing clashes over two days, especially at night?
A: I am moving in all directions. With other officials, we went ontook to the streets trying to calm things down. What happened is tension and fanaticism; but our sons have seen swords and fire, and they are afraid. Our sons are fearful in nature; may God save us in the coming days. In the seventies and eighties and seventies of the twentieth century violent sectarian attacks took place, and many people died, but the incidents used to end quickly and calmly. I do not know what’s going on this time. Honestly, people are getting more sensitive since the attacks in Farshūt.
Q: The question on the street is about who is behind the three suspects; investigations have shown that they were dangerous and had criminal history, so what relation do they have with religion?
Q: During the demonstrations that accompanied the delivery arrival of the dead bodies of the victims at the hospital, protestors were shouting against Majdī Ayyūb, the governor of Qena., what Who people areis angry at the governor? And what’s your opinion about him?
A: In fact, no one can envy Governor Majdī Ayyūb, and I understand him; for he is Christian and might be hesitant in offering services for Christians byfrom fear of accusing himbeing accused of complying with his fellow Christian citizens. I knew that some of the youth shouted against him because they were extremely angry.
Q: There was a kind of hesitation to head to the cemetery after having performed the prayer of the dead, at church., Was there any hesitation to leave the church to the cemetery, how do you explain that?
A: The killed sons did not belong to one and sole family, and every family haves its own cemeteries in neighboring villages and towns. At first they every family wanted to burry the dead at the family’s cemetery, but in the end we decided on a collective cemetery where all the victims are buried. We called it the Martyrs’ Cemetery. I think the security felt relieved with the decision, because providing a the security guardianship ofor one funeral is easier than that offor six different ones funerals in different directions.
