Engineer Ashraf Ramlah, president of the Sawt al-Aqbāt Organization in Italy, has continued his fierce attack on the Egyptian system. He even increased the problem when he renewed his request to the European Union to interfere in Egyptian affairs to save Christians from oppression. Ramlah sent the EU a letter describing the oppression Christians are facing in Egypt. He added that over 70,000 Christians had to emigrate to Italy to escape this discrimination.
Ramlah succeeded in his mission, as hundreds of Christians demonstrated in Italy while wearing black in mourning for those dead in Naj‘ Hammādī. People in the demonstration chanted slogans against the Egyptian government and expressed their anger over what Christians are facing in Egypt. They also held pictures of the Naj‘ Hammādī victims along with crosses.
Some Christians living in Italy described what Ramlah said as an act of treason. Nuhá Samīr, a Christian living in Italy, said that Ramlah never cared about Christian issues in the past.
