The Supreme Administrative Court issued a ruling that guarantees divorced Christians’ right to a second marriage, and their right to get the needed Church approval.
The Court dismissed the appeal filed by Pope Shenouda against the Administrative Court’s ruling that approved the second marriage of divorced Christians.
The Supreme Administrative Court asserted that forming a family is a right preserved by the Egyptian Constitution, and should be granted regardless of any other considerations. The Court also asserted that it rules according to the law and its rules, with all respect to the religious feelings.
The Administrative Court had granted a divorced Christian the right to a second marriage. However, the Church appealed on that ruling and refused to permit the second marriage.
