‘Īd Labīb, a Coptic member of the ruling National Democratic Party (NDP), who won a parliamentary seat in Deir Mawwās, said that above all he was happy with the support he received from both Muslims and Christians. Muslims were more supportive during the election campaign, he added.
“We don't differentiate between Muslims and Christians, but we do know the good from the bad," Labīb said.
He described Mallawi as being an honorable example of the role of citizens during an election campaign.
Labīb has established a number of projects to serve citizens and meet their needs, especially for those of limited income, and clothing for children, pupils and youth.
Al-Akhbār spoke to citizens in Mallawi, who referred to Labīb’s role in helping resolve the Deir Abū-Fānā crisis, together with his friend, People's Assembly Member ‘Alā’ Hassanayn. They pointed out that both had traveled to the United States several times to discuss the matter with Pope Shenouda, who was receiving medical treatment there.
Labīb and Hassanayn devised a number of solutions for that problem, which was threatening to destroy everything, as some described it.
