Minister of Endowments Mahmūd Hamdī Zaqzūq has set nine new restrictions on streamlining the holding of Sufi hymns in mosques which is in coordination with
Shaykh ‘Abd al-Hādī al-Kasabī, head of the Supreme Council for Sufi Orders, an institution that aims to preserve the mosques' sanctity.
Restrictions stipulate the holding of the Sufi hymns following the Jum‘ah (Friday) prayer or after the afternoon and evening prayers in other days and to last for only one hour.
Moreover, such rituals should take place under the supervision and responsibility of the Sheikhdom of the Sufi methods in Egypt. The use of loud speakers is also prohibited during the holding of Sufi rituals which should only take place in one of the mosque's corners.
The restrictions also provide for the mixing of men and women during the rituals. Additionally, bringing food, drinks, bags and children are also forbidden.
