Some people want Muslims without their Islamic beliefs.
They believe that evoking Islam complicates matters under the pretext that expressing of displaying the Islamic identity is repellent to others.
It also reduces the major issues in narrow religious symbols, opens the door to religious conflicts against "Jews" and undermines the possibility of peaceful coexistence with them.
The solution is to get Islam out of the subject, purify the conflict from "impurities," and remove what is religious in favor of what is human and secular.
There are two remarks: the first emanates from the forward-looking vision of Islam that is concerned with setting itself aside from conflict, rather than positioning itself steadfastness in the face of the enemy.
They believe that Islam is leading to the exclusion of others and not reconciling with them or absorbing them; hence, they judge matters affected by the climate of political mobilization and current events which has reduced Islam to be misrepresented by some extremist groups and terrorism.
The second remark is that this talk takes place while the Islamic forces top the ranks of Mujāhideen in the arena of conflict.
This applies to Hamas and the Islamic jihad in Palestine, the Hezbollah in Lebanon, and the on-going resistance of U.S. occupation in Iraq.
What is surprising is that those who reject the religious reference in the conflict, do not carry the responsibility of providing an alternative to face the enemy, as they are busy stripping the Islamic forces of their weapons. They seek to widen the gap between the parties and give the impression that the Islamic forces undermine reconciliation and consensus.
