The Ministry of Endowments (Waqf) has recently finalized measures for adding 450 mosques in 20 governorates with the aim of improving services and to provide qualified preachers in order to put an end to the presence of strict preachers in many mosques not affiliated with the Ministry.
Minister of Endowments, Mahmūd Hamdī Zaqzūq seeks to finalize a plan for annexing all the mosques this year in addition to providing preachers further training of the Islamic culture and knowledge.
A Minister of Endowments' source asserted that the mosques in Upper Egypt have got the lion share of this plan, where Qena came in first place with 80 mosques, Sohag (50) Assyut (69) , Minya (28), Aswan (10) and Faiyum (10), whereas Lower Egypt's share includes 14 mosques in Ismailia, 11 in Dakahlia, 54 in Sharqia, 49 in Beheira, 11 in Gharbia, two in North Sinai, and 11 in Monufia, besides ten in Cairo and nine others in the Sixth of October city.
