Dr. Muhammad al-Baradcī asserted that he does not aspire to be president of Egypt. In an interview with the Spanish newspaper País, al-Baradcī said, “I did not tell Egyptians that I will be their leader. However, if this is their desire, they should be ready for confrontations.” He added that many Egyptians have great hope in him and are waiting for him to save the country; something that does not reflect reality. “I am trying to minimize these aspirations as much as I can,” al-Baradcī said, “I am also trying to explain that everyone should unite in order to change the current situation.”
Al-Baradcī also said that he is fully aware that the current government in Egypt is very tense, since it is the first time people ask the government to stop deceiving them. Concerning his relationship with the Muslim Brotherhood, al-Baradcī said that he won their support, despite the differences between both sides concerning some social and political issues, like the idea of having a Christian or woman president in Egypt.
