Opinions concerning the importance of a meeting that took place in Ambassador Ibrāhīm Yusrī’s house between major political figures were varied. The meeting was covered by al-Misrī al-Yawm, while ‘Isām al-‘Iryān denied that the meeting took place in the first place.
The meeting was attended by Dr. Muhammad Badī‘, guide of the Muslim Brotherhood, as well as a number of leaders of the organization, MP Jamāl Zahrān, Ayman Nūr, founder of al-Ghad political party, MP Hamadīn Sabāhī, Yahyá Husayn, leader in Kifāyah movement, and Dr. Jalāl Amīn.
Jamāl As‘ad, the Christian thinker, said that attendees of the meeting discussed major political issues taking place in Egypt. He added that when political powers meet, none of them impose their personal ideology. On the contrary, they unite together in order to create a unified reform agenda.
Hamdī Qandīl commented, saying that it seems that the Muslim Brotherhood is more open than before. On the other hand, Dr. ‘Amr al-Shubakī¸ expert in political systems at the Ahrām Center for Studies, said that al-‘Iryān’s denial of the meeting is inexplicable. He added that meetings between members of the Muslim Brotherhood and political representatives are only for the media and propaganda.
