"I am the sole official spokesman in the Church." With this decisive statement, Pope Shenūda lll of Alexandria replied to a question asked by one of the attendees of his Wednesday weekly sermon at St. Mark Cathedral, Abbāsiyah, on who is the Church's official spokesman.
It's known that the Pope has assumed this post by virtue of a decision by the Holy Synod, which contains a number of committees, such as the media committee chaired by Anba Marqus, bishop of Shubrā al-Khaymah.
The Pope denied that he is behind the exclusion of Priest Ikrām Lam‘ī from representing the Evangelical Church in the justice committee, formed for drafting the Copts personal affairs law, saying: "this committee was appointed by the Ministry of Justice and we weren't consulted in its formation."
Furthermore, when asked why Orthodox priests can't marry after being ordained, and why can't he remarry after the death of his wife, the Pope replied "a priest is considered a father for all people, so when he marries one of his people it is as if he married his daughter, and this is illogical."
And finally when asked whether sisters can inherit from their dead brothers, he replied that "Christianity has worked out its own system for inheritance."
