Article full text:
Dr. Su‘ād Sālih is a moderate Islamic intellectual and has enlightened ideas, but suddenly she announced that she became a member of al-Wafd party, underlining she is socialist and her father was a leading figure of the Socialist Union. She joined al-Wafd because she admires its writers and she is against the Muslims Brotherhood, because of their thought which rejects women and non-Muslims to be the president, pointing out that women have the right now to become president.
“The intellectual, in her interview on a TV show, ignored Copts completely because they are “not Muslims” and because non-Muslims have no right to rule Muslims,” the author said.

“We found great contradictions in the intellectual’s talk, as she said she joined al-Wafd because she was a socialist and this has nothing to do with al-Wafd, which is a liberal and secular party. She joined it because she admires its writers, not because she admires the party’s program. The other contradiction appears when she said she is against the Muslim Brotherhood’s thought, but she is simply just against their thoughts regarding banning women from ruling the country, not Copts,” he explained.

“The constitution does not determine the religion of the presidential candidate and there is a difference between the Coptic constitutional right to run for presidency and the possibility to win the elections because of the vast majority of Muslims,” he concluded.
