There are some views that the Spanish film "Agora," directed by Alejandro Amenábar, misrepresents Egyptian church history whereas others believe that it supports philosophy against the Christian faith, which, according to the film, is not without political ambition.

The film deals with the last years in the life of the Greek-Egyptian philosopher Hypatia. One of the most famous bishops in the history of the Alexandrian Church, Bishop Cyrill, was one of the major inducers of murder of Hypatia. The film depicts the conflict between Hypatia and the new faith over intellectual authority.
