Coptic activist Kamāl Zākhir, who has recently resigned from al-Wafd Party, has launched a new movement called Egyptians Against the Regression of al-Wafd Party, in a bid to resist what he described as al-Wafd's giving up of its liberal principles in favor of the Muslim Brotherhood (MB).
On the other hand, Munīr Fakhrī 'Abd al-Nūr, secretary-general of al-Wafd Party, stressed that Zākhir’s movement is not against al-Wafd.
"On the contrary, it supports the principles of the party," said 'Abd al-Nūr.
