Article summary:

Some of the recent stances of al-Wafd Party have been highly controversial such as leader al-Sayīd al-Badawī’s visit to the murshid (guide) of the Muslim Brotherhood, his statements that al-Wafd is not a secular party, in addition to the statements by Wafd member Su‘ād Sālih in which she denied Copts' rights to power.

These stances gave some indications for a possible change in the liberal principles of al-Wafd.

The author wonders if there is an actual ideological and political change in al-Wafd Party.
