Bishop Theodosius of Giza is set to meet with Giza Governor Sayyid ‘Abd al-‘Azīz to discuss solutions to the ‘Umrāniyyah crisis. The Bishop told al-Misrī al-Yawm that Pope Shenouda III is following the case since many young Copts have been arrested. An ecclesial source announced the Church’s intentions of negotiating with the Giza Governor to waive the losses and release the arrested Copts. Copts for Egypt leader Rāmī Kāmil criticized the Bishop and accused him of discriminating against his own people. Kamāl Zākhir criticized the state for filing the incident as a case of state security when in fact it is a social and political case. Various Coptic organizations abroad also criticized the government for what they called the “racist attacks” on Copts. Majdī Khalīl said that the government has gone from discriminating against Copts to persecuting them.
