The National Democratic Party had a losing bet on Shirīf Biqatar (its candidate in the parliament elections, representing Karmuz constituency in Alexandria).

 

 Dr. ‘Īsa Jirjis, a member of the church council, had convinced NDP of his ability to make copts vote for Biqatar, but in return they appointed him in the parliament.

 

The Church council issued a declaration that assure that the church won’t support any candidate after the NDP did not place any of the Coptic Orthodox on their candidates’ list for the sake of the evangelical Biqatar.
