Coptic Orthodox Pope Shenouda III has canceled his annual visit to the country’s monasteries during Easter due to health problems.
Every Easter the pope performs the Friday of Final Fasting, in the Anbā Bīshūy Monastery in Wādī al-Naṭrūn. He then goes on to visit the surrounding monasteries, performing the Palm Sunday, Maundy Thursday and Good Friday prayers.
Last week, the pope suffered a health crisis, on April 6, 2011, only minutes before he was due to deliver his weekly sermon in the 'Abāsīyah St. Mark Cathedral and was transferred to the al-Sālam Hospital.
