Coptic Catholic Patriarch of Alexandria, Archbishop Antonius Najīb, has expressed his fears over the possibility of strong presence from Islamist forces in the next parliament.
His main concern is that Egypt will become a religious state if Islamist forces obtain a majority vote in the upcoming elections, and is particularly afraid of the imposition of an Islamist state model.
The Archbishop has also shown concern over the situation in Egypt after the January 25 Revolution regarding the rights of minorities, saying that while positive changes have been witnessed since the beginning of the revolution, they have not lived up to the ambitions of minorities.
He is calling for recognition of political groups on the basis of democratic consensus.
