Al-Youm al-Sabi' [September 20, 2011] reported that Wadah Khanfar, announced his resignation from the presidency of Al-Jazeera News channel after eight years, which he announced on his Twitter page. He did not give a reason, however a Wikileaks document revealed Khanfar’s cooperation with U.S. military intelligence services in 2005, which says he provided a monthly report presenting Al-Jazeera’s mistakes in covering U.S. issues. The document added U.S. military forces largely intervened in some news coverage of Al-Jazeera channels.

Al-Ahram [September 20, 2011] reported that some observers are linking Khanfar’s resignation with these recently released cables about a meeting in 2005 at the American Embassy in Doha between him and U.S. Defense Intelligence Agency officers. The cable fuelled rumors about the relationship between the U.S. and the controversial Qatari news network.
