During a meeting with a number of bishops and Coptic personalities at the papal residence in al-'Abāsīyah, the Coptic Pope said that all Copts have the right to demonstrate and to express their anger without offending anyone or employing violence. His Holiness added that international protection is not in the interest of Copts themselves.

Rose al-Yūsuf obtained information that the Coptic pope made phone calls with Coptic bishops in Europe and the U.S. and requested them to calm down expatriate Copts’ anger over Maspero incidents. His Holiness asked them to urge Copts not to go after demands raised by a few number of Coptic activists for international protection and reduction of U.S. aid to Egypt as a way of pressuring Egyptian authorities.

In a relevant respect, a number of Coptic organizations abroad, including the American Coptic Assembly chaired by Maurice Sādiq, the Coptic Assembly of America, and the Swedish Copts Association, called upon Copts to support them by collecting signatures on the petition they intend to present to the U.S. congress.
