The Supreme Council of the Armed Forces (SCAF), under the chairmanship of Field Marshal Husayn Tantāwī, approved the new composition of the Supreme Council of the Press proposed by Dr. 'Isām Sharaf, Prime Minister.
The proposed council is to be composed of the president of Shūrá Council, as a chairman, and the membership of chairpersons of the national newspapers; namely, al-Ahrām, Akhbār al-Yawm, Dār al-Tahrīr, Rose al-Yūsuf, Dār al-Ma'ārif, Middle East News Agency (MENA), and the National Company for Distribution; editors-in-chief of al-Ahrām, Al-Akhbār, Al-Jumhūrīyah, Al-Musawwar, Rose al-Yūsuf, October, and Middle East News Agency (MENA) in addition to editors-in-chief of newspapers of some parties including al-Wafd, al-Ahālī, al-'Arabī, al-Nūr and Freedom and Justice, and Mamdūh al-Wālī, President of Journalists’ Syndicate, Jalāl 'Arif, Dr. Usāmah al-Ghazūlī Harb, Amīnah Shafīq and Salāh 'Īsá.
The proposed composition also included president of the General Union of Employees at Press, Printing, Media, and Publishing, Ahmad Zakī 'Abd al-Hamīd, Hamdī Mislhī, Khālid Kāmil and Nabīl Farūk 'Abd al-Hamīd. It also included some press professors including Dr. Mahmūd 'Alam al-Dīn and Dr. Najwá Kāmil 'Abd al-Rahīm, some law professionals including Dr. Muhammed Anas Ja'far and Kamāl al-Lam’ī, and some public figures including al-Sayīd Yāsīn, Jamāl al-Ghitānī, Salāmah Ahmad Salāmah, Dīyā' Rashwān, Farūq Juwaydah, Labīb al-Sibā’ī, Muhammed Salmāwī, Salāh al-Dīn Muntasir, Mustafá Bakrī, Dr. Mustafá Kāmil al-Sayīd and Dr. Wahīd 'Abd al-Majīd.
