The Minister of Local Development and member of the Legislative Committee, Judge Muhammad 'Atīyah, said that the Committee in the Council of Ministers are waiting for the response of Family House, the Azhar, and all competent authorities to approve the law to be submitted to the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces (SCAF) to endorse the same.

According to statements to the media, Coptic Orthodox Pope Shenouda III announced his approval of the law after being amended. However, the Family House announced their rejection. The members of the Family House agreed that the law on mosque building for the year 2001 be approved as the law regulating building Islamic worship houses, and requested that a new law be passed to regulate building churches, the closed churches be opened, and the churches built without building permit be legalized and the relevant building permits be issued.
