Dr. 'Abd al-Mu'tī Bayyūmī, a former professor of Muslim theology in the University of the Azhar, said that these incidents should not be called fitnah ta'fīyah but rather sectarian concerns regarding a dispute about Egypt's Arab and Muslim identity, adding the rule of the law is the only solution for this problem.

Muhammad al-Mahdī, the chief general of the sharī'ah societies, said that there are some people who do not wish to see Egypt stable and secure, adding the media is part of the "plot" to start fitnah in Egypt.

A leading Muslim Brotherhood member, Subhī Sālih, said that if fair laws are applied to the fullest extent with transparency, neutrality, objectivity, independence, deterrent guarantees and sound mechanisms, the nation will definitely be spared a lot of problems.
