Article summary:

Hundreds of thousands of people gathered in al-Tahrīr square on November 18 to protest a document proposed by Dr. 'Alī al-Silmī, Deputy Prime Minister for Political Development and Democratic Transformation, in total absence of security agencies.

After the Friday prayers, marches coming from several areas in Cairo and Giza joined the big gathering in Tahrīr, a landmark symbol of Arab revolt. Liberals and civil political powers described the large number of Islamists from salafi movements as well as the Muslim Brotherhood group as "show of force".

Seizing the opportunity, the salafi party al-Nūr (Light) handed out brochures reading "Why should I vote for al-Nūr?" while other Islamists were handing out leaflets in which they called for electing "a man of religion who is not eagerly seeking presidency but has an Islamic platform."
