"Everyone knows that the group's youths are capable of deterring those persons who went too far and replying to slanders and insults. The whole world has seen those and recognized for which parties they are working," said Deputy Murshid (Guide) of the Muslim Brotherhood, Dr. Rashād al-Bayyūmī, in a message he sent to the group's youths.

He added that history will never disregard the fact that "the youths of the Muslim Brotherhood were the heroes of the (1948) Palestine war and that they have given the Zionist enemies a lesson they will never forget."

"When the Brotherhood learnt about the schemes of the former regime to stifle the January revolution, the youths of the MB were like soldiers in the Battle of the Camel and this is a fact attested to by the same persons who are now defaming the group," said Bayyūmī. Meanwhile, Grand Shaykh of the Azhar, Dr. Ahmad al-Tayyīb, said there should be no concerns over the emergence of the Muslim Brotherhood and Salafīs in power, adding the Egyptian people from now on would be watching everyone in public office and all political parties in all their different orientations.

Tayyīb made the remarks during a 90-minute meeting on Monday (January 30) with the former French minister of economy and finance and six members of the French National Assembly (parliament), currently on a visit to Egypt.

"Nothing justifies these concerns after the Muslim Brotherhood's Freedom and Justice Party (FJP) and the Salafī al-Nūr (Light) Party showed political flexibility over different issues and adopted political stances that proved to everyone that they are responsible," said Tayyīb, the leader of the top Sunni Muslim establishment. Reports conflicted on the health of Coptic Orthodox Pope Shenouda III as sources confirmed his deteriorating health due to "problems in the kidneys and the heart, which prompted him to cut short his treatment trip in the United States".

Rumors surfaced on Sunday (January 29) that the pope entered into a state of unconsciousness but the Coptic Orthodox Church denied these reports and affirmed that the top Coptic clergyman's health condition is stable.

"The pope's health is okay. He will deliver his weekly sermon tomorrow (Wednesday) at the St. Mark Cathedral," said Bishop Marqus of Shubrā al-Khaymah and Chairman of the Holy Synod's Information Committee, denying Pope Shenouda cut short his therapeutic trip in Cleveland Clinic, Ohio.
