Secretary-General of the Islamic Research Academy, Dr. Naẓīr ʿAyyād, praised the role and constant efforts by Grand Imām of al-Azhar, Dr. Aḥmad Ṭayyīb, to promote an enlightened religious discourse and counter hate speech.
Egyptian President ͑Abd al-Fattāḥ al-Sīsī has made reforming educational and religious discourse a top priority since he was elected and officially assumed office in July 2014. This was in response to concerns about terrorism and the rise to power of the outlawed Muslim Brotherhood group.

The Sixth International Conference of the General Secretariat for Fatwā Authorities Worldwide, organized by the Egyptian Dār al-Iftāʾ, under the auspices of President ʿAbd al-Fattāḥ al-Sīsī, unveiled the operational plan of “Salām Center for Extremism Studies”.
Dr. Muḥammad al-Ḍuwaynī, the Deputy of al-Azhar al-Sharif, said that the Egyptian Dār al-Iftāʾ was successful in choosing the title of its conference, which revolves around the developments of fatwās in the digital age, and we are aware of the urgency of this issue in the meantime.
Shaykh Jābir Ṭāyiʿ, head of the religious sector, stated that the Awqāf Ministry (Religious Endowments) sets some conditions for preachers who use the pulpits [minbar]. These conditions include being an Azharian (al-Azhar graduate) or holding a license from the Ministry of al-Awqāf.
