Initiative calling for the facilitation of building and restoring churches
A new initiative has provided for the building and restoration of churches in Egypt. This comes in the wake of the security forces’ attack on the Diocese Megāga meant to prevent the building of a church in the village, which had not received approval from the central government. The initiative has been criticized for its practices and it has increased pressure on the Copts. An official from the Program of Religious Freedom and Freedom of Thought, Īsahaq Ībrahīm, said that he was surprised that the right to build churches remained in Egypt with the approval of a majority of the people in the region. However this system has been delaying the rebuilding of the Church of the Virgin Mary in Megāga, as a large number of Muslims have been rejecting the plan.
