Al-Umma al-Qibtīya was established in 1952 by a law student, Ibrahim Hilal, as a response to the new Islamic aggressiveness exemplified by the Muslim Brothers. It had its own flag and uniform, encouraged members to learn the Coptic language and demanded a radio station for the Copts [ Abrar al-Ghannam, see paper 12 in AWR-Papers]
